Do You Defrost Meat and Chicken?

Depending on where and how you defrost grass-fed beef and pasture raised chicken from your latest regenerative farm delivery, you’ll have a different time frame for when to use the protein.

On the Countertop

When you defrost meat on the countertop (or in the sink), you have to use it that day. Once meat or poultry is completely defrosted, it should not be refrozen. And, once it reaches room temperature, you need to cook it.

In the Fridge

If you defrost chicken, beef, or pork in the fridge, it’s best to use it within 24 hours of defrosting, and at most 48 hours. This will help preserve the freshness of your meal.

How Long Can You Refrigerate?

After you’ve cooked the meal, there may be leftovers. Proper refrigeration can help you enjoy your food for the next couple of days.

Leftover Chicken

Leftover nutrient rich chicken free of corn and soy is good in the fridge for up to three days after you cook it. Of course, if you’re meal-prepping, you can put individual portions in the freezer, and they’ll last for about one to three months.

Leftover Beef

Beef is also good for up to three days after it’s cooked. However, this only applies to well-done meats. Those cooked rare or medium-rare will not last this long. In fact, these are best consumed the day you cook them to reduce the risk of bacteria growth and upset stomachs.

Proper food preparation and storage help you prevent waste and enjoy great tasting food.
